Admirer of Paul Raj Paintings

My photo
Paul was born in Kodaikanal on 22 September 1914 and died on 2 October 1979. G D Arulraj was born in 1925 and died in June 1972 while visiting India. Arul worked at Laguna Beach in the 60's and 1970's. G D Thyagaraj might have been born in 1922 and I am told that he probably died sometime before 1981. He moved to northern India as a young man. I lived in India as a child and spent a lot of time in Calcutta. My mother purchased several paintings directly from Paul Raj while living in Madras and this got me interested in his works. I then discovered he had two brothers Arul Raj and Thyaga Raj who were both fantastic artists. I could not find much information on the internet so decided to set up my own blog. Subsequently a Facebook tribute site has also been created to the memory of the three brothers. Contact me at: rajbrothers@hotmail.co.uk

Norman Ellison - Bombay

I have decided to post another painting by Norman Ellison a British artist who was in the army during the second World War based in India.  This painting shows Bombay from the sea.
I liked this painting, the colours appealed to my taste. I believe it was painted around 1944 or 1945.

G D Paulraj - Cart on stormy day

It is getting hard to remember which paintings I have added to the blog in the past.  I do not think I have added this one before.  It is the painting that appeared in the newspaper article back in the 1970's.
You can really feel the cold wet rain, the road looks muddy rather than dusty as in other paintings by Paulraj.

G D Paulraj - Convoy of hay carts

This is the second of what I believe are quite early paintings by Paulraj.  I just feel the style looks young and not quite mature.  But I have no evidence by which I can prove this.
The painting may have faded as well by the blue of the sky and the yellow hay is still visible.  The signature is still clear.  Hope you like this one

G D Paulraj - Several Pairs of Oxen Ploughing

This is a painting by G D Paulraj that should in Europe a few years back.  The colours seem very faded it was one of a pair in the auction.
Not sure if the colours are deliberate or whether it has faded due to exposure to the light.

Boat on river - Norman Ellison

As I managed to post the last painting twice he is another I own by Norman Ellison.
It is still very fresh considering it is around  66 years old.
